LABEL NEWS
Berlin based Brit Ed Davenport has announced his debut LP, 'Counterchange', will be released on NRK in March 2012. The record will be released on CD and 2 part vinyl. Ed and label boss Nick Harris will celebrate the release together with a night at Berlin's Panorama Bar in April.

Having slowly but assuredly emerged through the mire of house producers in the last 5 or so years, Ed Davenport now cuts it with the best of them. A steady stream of singles for Bristol?s NRK have found him really finding his feet. The More Red Lights and New Yorkshire EPs from 2011 are testament to that, both of which explored a well-designed, thick and heavy house and techno sound.

It's a similar sound explored throughout 'Counterchange', too, but with plenty of concessions to filmic home listening rather than straight up dancefloor fodder. Notably, breakbeats feature heavily up the spine of the album, as does subtle vocal sampling and plenty of atmospheric tension.

ABOUT
Bristol, UK. A city synonymous with bass music; trip-hop, drum ‘n’ bass, reggae, blues, and more recently, dubstep. However, another kind of bass music has emitted from the city over the last decade and a half, with a global reach to match is genre cousins, and over 170 single releases, 50 albums and over 30 mix compilations.

NRK Music released its first 12” single in late 1996, not from a Bristol artist, but one from New York City. Unsurprisingly then, NRK’s musical focus was on house music, a sound born out of the clubs of New York, Chicago and Detroit, and lapped up by the European scene in the late 80s/early 90s.

Set up by teenage friends, Nick Harris and Redg Weeks, NRK Music actually grew from the respected NRK DJ Agency, a booking agency for the top underground DJs in the early-mid 90s, and whose roster included Derrick Carter, Dimitri From Paris, Carl Craig, Larry Heard, Angel Moraes, Ian Pooley , Nick Holder and many others.

And against the odds, perhaps, and in a new era of music, and a new way of consuming and sharing music, NRK Music proudly stands firm 15 years on, rubbing shoulders with other established labels who have lasted the distance, such as Ovum, Planet E, Freerange, Peacefrog and others.

A label that has brought many, many differing styles of house and techno to the forefront, and in some cases catching the trends well before their commercial successes, the artist roster of NRK Music reads like a who’s who of dance music. Over it’s 250+ releases, NRK have released great music from Francois K, Ame, Peace Division, Dave Clarke, DJ Sneak, Joey Negro, Miguel Migs, Audio Soul Project, Kerri Chandler, Paul Woolford, Ron Trent, Joe Claussell, Rolando, Danny Krivit….the list is endless.
